Location: 29 kilometres south of Luang Prabang
The Kuang Si Falls, sometimes spelled Kuang Xi or known as Tat Kuang Si Waterfalls, is a three tier waterfall south of Luang Prabang. The falls begin in shallow pools atop a steep hillside. These lead to the main fall with a spectacular 60 metres cascade. The water collects in numerous turquoise blue pools as it flows downstream which you can swim in. Sheila said that the water was very cold and that there were lots of tiny fish ferociously nibbling at her toes. They were the same fish, I understand, that people pay to have the hard skin taken off their feet. I decided to give it a miss myself and stick to the photography.
There is a compound at the start of the walk containing a number of black moon bears which have been rescued from poachers. The compound was large and there was plenty for them to do. They were very entertaining and there were lots of spots to take their pictures.
