Morning mist on Derwentwater

Location: Castlhead summit near Keswick
I got up very early on Saturday 22nd September and looked out through our lodge window to see a thick blanket of mist over Bassenthwaite Lake and Derwentwater. I quickly got dressed, grabbed a bite to eat, and once I had cleared the frost from my windscreen, set off for Derwentwater before the mist started to lift.
I decided to set off down at the boat landings in Keswick, but finding the mist to be a little too thick down there, made the short climb up onto Castlehead to get up above it. This is a favourite viewpoint of mine and walk requiring very little effort. The mist was lying in layers behind the hedges and the sun was lighting up the fells and fields around the lake. I had to act quickly to set my tripod up on the rocky summit before the mist lifted. The scenery changed so quickly - one minute the views were fabulous and the next minute the mist almost obliterated the fells behind the lake as it swirled around. I ended up taking dozens of shots hoping that some of them would be what I was looking for. I stitched two images together to make this shot and it’s one that I am really pleased with.
