Storm brewing behind Castle Geyser, Yellowstone NP

Location: Upper Geyser Basin, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
This is another predictable geyser, which erupts roughly every 9 to 11 hours. We were passing it on our walk around the Upper Geyser Basin and noticed that it was due to erupt in about 5 mi,,,ns so we took a seat on one of the benches to wait despite the fast approaching storm.
A water eruption frequently reaches 90 feet (27m) and lasts about 20 minutes. The water phase is followed by a noisy steam phase lasting 30 - 40 minutes. To say it was spectacular is an understatement. It was fabulous to watch and the dramatic skies behind it were the icing on the cake. This was by far our favourite geyser in the park.
The storm soon came and we had to run for cover but were able to watch Old Faithful going off again from the safety of the Visitor Centre where they have a huge picture window.
