Location: Angkor Archaeological Park, Siem Reap, Cambodia
Ta Promh became more famous when the blockbuster Lara Croft: Tomb Raider was filmed there. It is a beautiful temple, now bound together by the massive roots of huge trees. Back in the days it was very different: one could see walls decorated by precious stones, hear beautiful music, and dancing in the halls. When in late nineteenth century Ta Prohm was discovered by the French, they decided not to conduct a full-scale restoration of the temple. The decision was made due to the fact that giant trees, such as ficus and silk, were so merged with ancient walls that eventually they had become one. So now you can see this unique Cambodian monument in the same state it was discovered in by the researchers.
We visited at the hottest part of the day when everyone who was sensible was indoors. But at least it made our visit relatively crowd free.
This is a fabulous temple and more than met our expectations. Cards were filled up!
